A shrine to the Supermonkey
In Buddhist folklore, there is a tale
of a monkey with super powers. In the cities of Nepal, religious
shrines such as these are common. They are usually colorfully decorated, often
smeared with various colors - sometimes looking pretty messy.

In the Chitwan jungle, a Rhino in the early morning mist
These deadly animals look absolutely
prehistoric when seen up close, with armor-like plates. Oddly, the back of an
elephant is the only safe place to see these aggressive animals. That's why

Me and My Elephant in Chitwan
After hiking in the mountains and seeing Kathmandu, I traveled south
to Chitwan where I stayed in a jungle cabin. Each day, we'd ride elephants or
quietly move through the brush in search of tigers and rhinos or other jungle
wildlife. We did see rhinos, monkeys, pygmy deer and other wildlife, but no
tigers this trip. (Darn) |
