The photos on this page come from a trip to Nepal taken in 1999.
Nepal is a scenically beautiful place and the people are friendly.
Most are either Buddhist or Hindu. Photos of a trek in the Himalaya
Mountains were taken near the border of Tibet, where
the people were virtually all
Buddhists. And they are living much as
they have lived for centuries, without electricity or the conveniences most of
us take for granted.
There are many treks in Nepal and, for the most part, they're all
challenging. The Langtang trek in Nepal certainly is. It first requires
getting to Dhunche, Nepal, where treks in the Himalayas in this part of Nepal
begin. From Katmandu, Dhunche is a long, uncomfortable 8-hour bus ride on
rugged mountain roads, often along sheer mountain cliffs. From Dhunche, this
Himalayan trek goes through Bharkhu, Syabru, Ghora Tabela, Langtang and
Kyangjin,
to name a few of the villages. If you're interested in trekking in Nepal,
this is a great place to go. Anyone that enjoys hiking, would love hiking in
the Himalayas.
In addition to mountain trekking in the Himalayas, it is worth
exploring the
cities of Katmandu, Patan, Bhaktapur, and Pokhara, as well as the Chitwan
Jungle in the Royal
Chitwan National Park.
